Our Board & Staff


Board

Dr. Edward Birch
Dr. Edward Birch, Chairman of the Board of Pacific Capital Bancorp, has more than 35 years experience in the field of management. Named Vice Chancellor Emeritus of the University of California at Santa Barbara, he also served as Executive Vice President at Westmont College and at Michigan State University. He served as Vice President for the highly successful 1984 U.S. Olympic Games in Los Angeles. A Ph.D. graduate from Michigan State University, Mr. Birch serves as trustee of the Margaret C. Mosher Trust, and is President and CEO of the Samuel B. and Margaret C. Mosher Foundation. He served on the Boards of a number of nonprofit organizations over the years and currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Cottage Health Systems, The Channel City Club, the Community Arts Music Association, Westmont College, UCSB Foundation, Statewide Board of the UCSB Economic Forecast Project and the Advisory Board of The Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. David K. Winter
Dr. David K. Winter, presently Headmaster of the Providence Hall High School, served for 25 years as President of Westmont College in Santa Barbara until his retirement in 2002. A graduate of the University of California and Michigan State University, Dr. Winter served in the United States Navy, conducted anthropological research in Pakistan, taught at Wheaton College and Calvin College, and served as Academic Vice President of Whitworth College before coming to Westmont.

Dr. Winter has served on numerous boards locally and nationally including the Santa Barbara Industry Education Council, the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission, the United Way Campaign, and the senior commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Association of California Colleges and Universities, and several other educational organizations.

 

Dr. Robert Emmons
Dr. Robert Emmons, managing partner of investment partnership Emmons Capital, is past Chairman and CEO of Smart & Final Inc. (NYSE: SMF). An accomplished author with seven books to his credit, Dr. Emmons has been active in numerous educational and non-profit organizations. He is a former Professor at the University of Southern California' Marshall Graduate School of Business and a past recipient of USC's Executive of the Year Award.

Dr. Emmons is a board member of numerous local, national and international boards including the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at USC, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, the Santa Barbara Foundation, the Mosher Foundation, the Community Arts Music Association, and Laguna Blanca School.

 

Dr. Bruce McFadden
Dr. Bruce McFadden, a resident of Santa Barbara since 1969, is an interventional cardiologist at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. A graduate of Brown University and Cornell University Medical School, he completed post-graduate training in internal medicine at Dartmouth University and a cardiology fellowship at the University of Colorado.
A Trustee of the Mosher Foundation, Dr. McFadden and his wife Natalie, have been engaged over the years in several nonprofit and educational activities including the Garden Club of Santa Barbara, CALM, Laguna Cottages for Seniors and the Goleta Valley Hospital Foundation. They are very active in the City's civic and cultural life.


 

 

Advisor

Suzanne Birch
Suzanne Birch brings to her role as Advisor to the Mosher Foundation an extensive educational and professional background. The holder of a Masters in Counseling from The Ohio State University and an undergraduate degree from the University of New York, she has served as a teacher, Head of Lower School and Counselor at Laguna Blanca School, Computer Instructor for the Santa Barbara County Education Office, Supervisor of Student Teachers at the University of California Santa Barbara, and an Educational Instructional Specialist for IBM.

Ms. Birch is an active participant and board member for a number of organizations, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Marymount School, the Non-Profit Support Board, Opera Santa Barbara, Laguna Blanca School and All Saints Parish School. She has also served as a group counselor for the Cancer Center Children's Group and as Westmont College President's Trips Planner & Leader.


Staff

Yvette Giller
Yvette Giller is Director of the Samuel B. and Margaret C. Mosher Foundation. Mrs. Giller is a graduate of UC San Diego with a major in Communication and a minor in English. She worked for many years in marketing and advertising for McCann-Erickson and for Sunset Magazine and Books.

A long time resident of Santa Barbara, Mrs. Giller has been active in the non-profit sector while serving as a board member for several organizations including Marymount School, Storyteller Children’s Center, Westmont Foundation, National Charity League and the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara. She resides in Santa Barbara with her husband, Jeff, and their three children.

Jennifer Engmyr
Jennifer Engmyr is the Financial Administrator of the Samuel B. and Margaret C. Mosher Foundation. Mrs. Engmyr has a B.A. in Economics from UC Santa Barbara. She has worked as a controller and manager of finance for 20 years. She worked with Margaret C. Mosher, as her bookkeeper, prior to her death and continued her work with the Margaret C. Mosher Trust.

Mrs. Engmyr has been a part of the Santa Barbara community since 1987. She actively volunteers in her daughter’s local elementary school. She resides in Santa Barbara with her two daughters and her husband, Eric.
